The two prices of a QR code
A static code encodes its destination directly in the image. There is no server behind it, so there is nothing to subscribe to: it costs nothing and works until the paper it's printed on falls apart. 11 of the 17 tools we track offer honest free static codes.
A dynamic code points to a short redirect link on the vendor's servers. That indirection is what lets you edit the destination after printing and count scans, and it's what you pay for. It's also the dependency to understand before you print: if the subscription lapses, several vendors stop redirecting.

The three pricing traps to check before you print
Annual-first display. Most vendors advertise the annualized rate; the monthly bill can be higher (compare the two columns above). In our sample, 5 paid QR platforms have no monthly price on the entry plan. Check higher tiers and shorter commitments before deciding what the whole product offers.
Trial codes that lock. Some "free trial" dynamic codes stop redirecting when the trial ends, until you subscribe. We verified this behavior in the vendors' own help pages for two tools in the index, and on October 1, 2026 we observed it on our own QRFY and QR.io trial codes (see the expiry log). If a code is going on anything printed, confirm what happens at trial expiry first.
