QR Tiger is the most feature-dense dynamic QR platform in our index. It counts 25 code types on its homepage, sells bulk generation and an API as products in their own right, and ships a design editor deeper than most of the category bothers with. The company says it has served more than 850,000 brands since 2018. Google’s AI Overview for “best qr code generator” labels it “Best for Business & Tracking”, sourcing Reddit and YouTube rather than a test (our SERP capture, August 7, 2026). None of that is the problem. The problem is the road to a file: the free generator on the homepage made us a QR code we could not download.
What QR Tiger is
A dynamic QR platform, first, with a static generator attached to the front page. Dynamic codes point at a QR Tiger short link, so the destination stays editable and every scan gets counted. Static codes carry the destination in the pattern itself and answer to nobody.
The type coverage is where QR Tiger separates itself. We counted 25 types on the homepage on August 7, 2026, and the list runs past the usual URL, vCard, Wi-Fi and social set into territory competitors either skip or reserve for enterprise quotes. GS1 Digital Link is there, which matters if you work in retail or packaging and need one code to carry product data in a format retailers and scanners agree on. So is Smart URL routing, where a single printed code resolves to different destinations by country, language, time or device. File, menu and link page round it out.
Bulk generation and the API are sold as separate products rather than buried as a plan footnote, which tells you who the platform is built for. Analytics start at core level on the first paid tier, with advanced analytics and campaign features from Advanced (pricing page, August 7, 2026). The dashboard sits behind signup, so our analytics score reads from their documentation, not from a session, and the score breakdown above flags it that way. Support is advertised as 24/7 on every plan, free included.
What happened when we tested the free generator
Here is the sequence, in the order it happened.
We opened the homepage generator and pasted our test URL. The generator was already set to Static, and PNG was the selected export format, so no setting had to be changed to arrive at the simplest possible output. The preview rendered. We decoded that preview with our own scanner and it carried our test URL correctly, which means the generator does its job. Then we clicked Download. The browser did not deliver a file. It went to the pricing page.
We ran the whole flow again the same day, from the top, with the same settings. Same destination. The screenshot is in our evidence folder, dated August 7, 2026.
The precise thing to say is this: on the homepage path, the word free applies to making the code, not to getting it. The pricing page occupies the position in the flow where the file should be. That sting is sharper on a static code than it would be on a dynamic one, because a static code costs the vendor nothing after it is drawn. There is no redirect to host, no scan to log, no dashboard to maintain. It is the one output in this category that is free by construction, and it is the one we could not obtain.
Two things we will not claim. We do not know whether this is a deliberate gate, a broken button, or a test being run on some visitors, and we tested from an EU connection on a single day. We report the behavior we reproduced, not the intent behind it.
The fairness point matters just as much. QR Tiger’s freemium is not fake. Create an account and you get 3 dynamic QR codes with 500 scans each, alongside static codes, per their pricing FAQ read the same day. Measured against the free tiers in this index that is above average, and dynamic codes on a free plan are rare enough to count. Somebody who signs up gets what was advertised. Somebody who takes the homepage literally gets a price list. The offer is honest. The path is not.
Pricing, verified August 7, 2026
Prices are displayed in EUR to EU visitors. Regular is 6.07 euros per month. Advanced is 13.88 euros per month on annual billing and carries the most popular label. Premium is 32.11 euros per month, annual as well. Entry pricing lands near the bottom of the range we track, so cost is not this tool’s weak spot.
Finding out what each tier includes takes work. The per-tier dynamic code counts sit behind collapsed Show features panels, so comparing three plans means expanding three panels before the numbers that decide the purchase appear. That is friction rather than deception, but it is friction pointed in one direction.
The expiry policy is disclosed, and we will give credit where it is due. QR Tiger’s pricing FAQ states that paid codes are valid only for the period you pay for, and that they will stop working once the plan expires. That is written in plain language on a public page, which is more than several trial-based tools in our index manage. It also means the printed artifact and the subscription are now one product. A dynamic code on packaging, signage or a business card works for exactly as long as you keep paying, and the day you stop is the day the print run becomes decoration. Static codes escape that entirely, which brings the review back to where the previous section ended.
Design depth, and one scanning caveat
The editor earns its reputation. Pattern shapes, eye shapes and eye colors, logo embedding with automatic color matching, gradients, frames with call-to-action text, and a template gallery, with PNG and SVG both selectable. We saw all of it on August 7, 2026, and the code we decoded came out of that editor intact, so customization does not break the output by default.
One caveat, and it comes from an unlikely source. A QR Tiger walkthrough on YouTube with roughly 20,000 views, made by a reviewer who openly earns affiliate commission on signups, pauses to warn that the more complex pattern designs can be tricky for older Android cameras to read, and recommends simpler patterns when the audience is broad. A limitation flagged by someone paid to sell the product is worth more than the same point made by a competitor.
Our own decode test used a plain pattern, so it says nothing about the decorative end of the gallery. The rule holds across every generator we test, and QR Tiger’s depth just gives you more rope: test the final code on at least two phones, one of them old, before anything goes to a printer. Our free generator playbook covers the checks in order.
Who it fits, and who should skip it
QR Tiger fits a marketing team that needs breadth. If your list of requirements includes GS1 Digital Link for packaging, country-based routing on a single printed code, bulk runs, API access, or campaign-level analytics, very few tools in this index cover that spread, and 13.88 euros a month is a defensible line item for it. It also fits anyone willing to make an account first, since 3 dynamic codes with 500 scans is enough for a real pilot.
Skip it if you want one static PNG for a poster and nothing else. The homepage path will show you a price list before it shows you a file, and there are generators that hand over a vector in one screen with no account at all.
Skip it too, or at least go static, if what you are printing has to outlive your appetite for a subscription. Their FAQ is unambiguous about paid dynamic codes stopping at plan expiry. Menus get reprinted every season, so dynamic is fine there. Equipment labels, packaging and engraved plates do not, and those want a code nobody can switch off.
Alternatives worth comparing
If the download wall is your issue and static is all you need, QR Code Monkey is the direct answer: no account, no watermark, no funnel, print-ready vector output. You give up editable destinations and scan counts, and you gain a code that keeps working no matter what happens to the company that made it.
If you are still shopping the free end of the market, our best free QR code generators page carries the expiry-behavior test for every tool we have checked, with the date we checked it, so you can see which free codes survive and which ones are on a timer.
