Every free tier in this market has a funding source. Trials convert, thin quotas upsell, suite vendors amortize. ME-QR, from the UK company ME TEAM, picked the model nobody else in our index uses: the codes are free and enormous in number, and the person who scans one watches an ad on the way to your content.
This review was built from ME-QR’s published pages, read on the dates shown, not from a hands-on account run.
What ME-QR is
On paper, the most generous dynamic-QR product we track. The Free plan lists 10,000 trackable codes with unlimited scans and destination editing, analytics that cover scans, cities, device types and per-scan notifications with a 1-year history, and all five export formats, PNG, SVG, PDF, JPG and EPS, on every tier. Creating a code requires no account. The marketing claims more than 40 code types; we counted about 13 categories actually enumerated on the features page and record that number instead. There is even a ChatGPT integration, a GPT that builds codes conversationally.
The business model, in one table row
The pricing table ends on a row most vendors do not need: Advertising. Free reads All QR codes with ads. Lite reads 1 ads-free QR code (in total). Premium reads All QR codes ads-free, no ads in the app. Their instructions page describes the mechanic plainly: after a scan, an advertisement shows before the encoded content opens.
Weigh who pays here. You get the quota; the interstitial is shown to your customer, on their phone, between their scan and your menu. You do not choose the advertiser, and a scanner who meets a full-screen ad may reasonably wonder whose code they just trusted. That is why ME-QR carries one of the lowest trust marks in our index while its free capacity is unmatched: the cost exists, it is just not billed to you.
What ad-free costs
The euro prices float on a dollar base, so we date them: read August 11, 2026, Lite is 8.66 euros a month (5.27 billed yearly) and Premium is 13.86 a month (7.51 billed yearly). The odd step is Lite: it removes ads on exactly one code in total, a single-code exception that mostly proves how central the ads are. If you are paying to protect a customer-facing scan experience, Premium is the tier that does it, and at the yearly rate it is mid-market money for an unlimited-feeling quota.
The FAQ, rechecked September 11, 2026, limits the lifetime claim: codes can be blocked after 365 days without a scan. Registered users receive a warning and have a one-month recovery period before deletion. Signing in does not remove that rule.
Corrected September 11, 2026: an earlier version said nothing expired on a clock and mentioned inactivity only for anonymous codes. The FAQ also describes deletion of inactive codes belonging to registered users.
Where the record is thin
Design tooling is hard to assess from the outside: a template gallery exists, but logo and shape options are not documented on the pages we read. Bulk generation is claimed nowhere we could pin down. Support has no published tier commitments, and the sitemap 404s, which does not inspire confidence in the documentation layer. As with every public-docs review on this site, a hands-on account pass could move these observations either way, and we say so rather than guess.
Who it fits, and who should skip it
ME-QR fits high-volume personal and hobby use where the scanning audience is you, your friends, or a community that tolerates an interstitial: inventory labels, event experiments, link collections, anything where 10,000 free dynamic codes beat a clean scan. It also fits as a paid Premium tool at a fair yearly rate, if its quota is what you need.
Skip the free tier for anything customer-facing: a menu, packaging, a storefront, a business card. The ad between the scan and your content is the impression your customer takes away, and you do not control it. For clean free dynamic codes, Hovercode gives you three with no ads at scan, in writing. For free static codes with no third party at all, QR Code Monkey and QRzie close the question.
Alternatives worth comparing
Our free generators guide places ME-QR in the free-as-a-business-model category next to the trial funnels, which is the honest company for it. The pricing index shows where its paid tiers land once the market’s entry prices sit side by side, and the full ranking shows the full trust-versus- quota trade in scored form.
